Traveling to Athens on a budget? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here are the best destinations in Greece’s capital that won’t make you spend anything. You’re welcome!

1. Take in the scenic views from Lofos Strefi

Enjoy a day at “Strefi Hill” located at the top edge of the Exarhia neighbourhood, which has a basketball court and a football field. Some festivals are also held here and people relax here after having a tiring tour around the city.

2. Visit Embros Theatre

Once a newspaper factory that’s shut down in 2007, Embros Theater has a lot of free things to keep you entertained. It was revived by theatre groups as a cultural hub in 2011, and relied on donation ever since. The place now has plays, exhibition rooms and even a self-managed bar and chill-out area. Cool, huh?

3. Take a hike to Mount Parnitha

Take a break from all sorts of stress in Parintha, one of the mountains around the Attica Basin. This green haven offers hiking trails and comfy huts as refuge to hikers when the weather disappoints.

4. Chill with the locals at Nosotros

Established in 2005, all kinds of free activities happen in Nosotros with a focus on direct democracy. Now, they offer Greek, Italian and Spanish language classes, political discussions and yoga sessions. You can even simply enjoy a drink in their cafe. Located on a serene and beautiful street, Vryssaki has exhibition rooms, a library, and a cafe situated on the rooftop where you can soak up the striking views of ancient monuments around the area. You can also attend some yoga, dance and foreign language classes here.

6. Get a better view of the Acropolis at Filopappou Hill

Rock climbers would know that there’s a steep cliff for them to play around, thanks to the experts for fixing all the necessary gear to the rocks. If you’re not into rock climbing, you can still enjoy the magnificent view of the mountains, the Port of Piraeus, and the Acropolis while sipping on your beer.

7. Visit Vrahakia for other awesome panoramic views of the city

Located at the top part of Aeropagus Hill, you can see how big Athens is from here, plus the mountain ranges surrounding the Attica Basin.

Check out the schedule posted outside the cinema room for the free movies and free cinema classes! Lucky us, the IRIDA cinema club of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is generous enough.
