1. Discover the history of Turkish Jews at the Zülfaris Synagogue Jewish Museum of Turkey
Today, Zülfaris Synagogue serves as a museum where you can learn more about Sephardi Jews’ history and life. He was casted out from Spain by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand and was welcomed into the Ottoman Empire by Sultan Bayezid II. Avoid visiting on religion days as it is closed.

4. Marvel at the Byzantine architecture at Zeyrek Camii
It is the second largest religious structure built by the Byzantine that is still standing strong in Istanbul. It is tucked on a hillside overlooking the Golden Horn.
5. Check out modern art and afternoon tea at the Doğançay Museum
The works of Turkey’s two most famous painters, Burhan Dogancay and his father Adil Dogançay, are housed in a 150-year-old building in the buzzing Beyoğlu district. Complimentary teas are served from 3-5pm.
6. Soak up the incredible atmosphere of the Grand Bazaar
Browse through magnificent Turkish stuff like jewellery, leather goods, scarves, and souvenirs spread inside the huge 15th century building that has more than 3000 shops. Although some vendors are very persistent, Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar is a fun place.
7. Visit the Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art
Check out the important works of the famous Turkish and international artists like Fahrelnissa Zeid, Andy Warhol, Tracey Emin, Jan Fabre, Barbara Kruger, Paul McCarthy and Cindy Sherman. This museum is run by the Elgiz family, opened in 2001 to foster contemporary art in Turkey.
8. Enjoy fresh produce at Mısır Çarşısı
Check out, smell and sample a wide array of top-quality spices, sweets, dried fruits, nuts and other fresh produce. Some people prefer to shop here as it’s close to Eminönü port. The storekeepers would be glad for you to stop by.
9. Hang out with locals at Ortaköy Square
This is a must-visit place where a lot of young people hit to enjoy the upbeat atmosphere. One of the greatest works by the famous Balyan family can be seen here, the stunning baroque mosque standing on the waterfront.
10. Explore the exquisite SALT Galata exhibition space
Marvel at exquisite art exhibitions and lovely views at the magnificent Ottoman Building in Karaköy. This is the most favorite place of the locals, and could be yours, too.
