City Lights Books you invites you to join the celebration of the release of Shakespeare and Company, Paris: A History of the Rag & Bone Shop of the Heart on Tuesday, January 10th at the said bookstore in 261 Columbus Avenue, San Francisco, California.
The book is about the history of the first-ever legendary bohemian bookstore in Paris. It interweaves essays and poetry from a bunch of writers associated with the shop such as Allen Ginsberg, Anaïs Nin, Ethan Hawke, Robert Stone and Jeanette Winterson, among others.
The book also contains unpublished photographs of James Baldwin, William Burroughs and Langston Hughes.
Edited with introduction by Krista Halverson, foreword is by the celebrated British novelist Jeanette Winterson, and the epilogue by Sylvia Whitman, the daughter of the store’s founder, George Whitman.
