Experience LaborFest, an annual festival celebrating the history and culture of working people through film, art, lectures, and exhibits all over the Bay Area from July 1-31, 2017.
On Saturday, July 22nd, join the Tom Mooney & Preparedness Day Bombing Walk for free at 10:00 am with meeting point at One Market Street in San Francisco, California.
About the tour: “The tour will also include the amazing mosaic mural on the UC Berkeley campus and photographs of the California Folk Music Project, Western Museum Laboratory, WPA prints at the Berkeley Public Library, and WPA projects on the UC Berkeley campus.
On this tour, you will learn not only about the war between business and labor and open and closed union shops, but also the divisive issues of American aggression in the Pacific region and against Mexico, crusading and yellow journalism in the city of San Francisco, and the mood of the country regarding World War I.”
The tour lasts approximately two hours.
The festival commemorates the 83rd anniversary of 1934’s “Bloody Thursday” when two workers were shot and killed in San Francisco for supporting the longshoremen and maritime workers strike. The incident brought about the San Francisco General Strike.
This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the 1937 sit-down strikes. LaborFest will be commemorating this with films about these struggles and the recent struggles of workers in Madison, Wisconsin against Scott Walker.
