Of course, you have the option to spend lavishly when you travel but most of the time, it’s better if you save your money for future trips and just enjoy the free things each country has to offer. Here, we’ve gathered the five best free things to do in Puerto Rico.
Noche de Galerias
The best time to go here is during the peak season, which is from February to May and September to December. Why? Because it’s art appreciation time with free wine! Around 20 galleries join the exhibit and keep their doors open and free to the public until late nights. This event is much like an open-air museum and a cocktail party. Sounds fun, right?
Patron Saint Festivals
Enjoy weekly festivals in every town in Puerto Rico in honor of their patron saint. This is a terrific way to know more about Puerto Rico’s culture, food, music, etc. The Ponce Carnival is one of the biggest festivals and shouldn’t be missed.
Casa Bacardi
You heard it right, we’re talking about our favorite Bacardi here. Before you get intoxicated with this delicious rum, perhaps you might want to have free tour in its distillery in Cataño, (the world’s largest rum distillery) which is just near Old San Juan. It opens its door to the public year-round and discusses about the history of rum-making on the island and Bacardi’s origins. Don’t forget to get your complimentary drink!
El Yunque
Enjoy hiking in the only tropical rainforest system in the U.S. National Forest System. After the hike, cool down at the waterfall or check out the forest’s “El Portal” Visitors Center.
Ventana al Jazz
Experience the The Ventana al Jazz, or “Window to Jazz,” an amazing event hosted by Heineken. The Heineken Jazz Fest is Puerto Rico’s annual jazzathon which takes place at theVentana al Mar park every last Sunday of the month. It is a night of jazz music music accompanied by the natural orchestra of gentle waves breaking on Condado beach. Recently, Heineken launched the “Jazz Under the Stars,” a new event at Sheraton Puerto Rico & Casino Hotel happening every Thursday at 8 pm.
